LED Light Therapy and Pregnancy

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it is also one of the most sensitive. It is important to be aware of how skin changes during pregnancy, because it can affect how you take care of your skin.

The changes in skin during pregnancy are due to hormones that change the production of oil, sweat and sebum. The development of stretch marks and acne are also caused by hormones.

It is important to know that there are certain things you can do to help manage these changes in your skin during pregnancy. For example, moisturising lotion can help prevent dryness and keep your skin healthy.

LED Light Therapy and Pregnancy

LED light therapy is a treatment that uses light to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It is used for a variety of conditions, including acne, psoriasis, eczema and rosacea.

The LED light therapy and pregnancy has not been studied extensively and there is a lot of different advice about it's use during pregnancy. Some advise, the benefits of led light therapy outweigh the risks for pregnant women. However, the fact there is no clinical research or data to show to effects it has on the foetus, we would advise to avoid LED light therapy treatments during pregnancy, especially when looking for home solutions to treat skin concerns like acne and melasma. LED light therapy for the skin shouldn't be confused with other forms of light therapy, which may be used by doctors to treat Seasonal affect disorder etc in pregnant women.

LED Light Therapy and Melasma

Melasma is a skin condition that causes brown patches on the face. It is more common in pregnant women and may be reduced with LED light therapy, as it has has been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of melasma, but it does not work for everyone.

Treating melasma requires an in-depth understanding of what causes the condition, be it hormones or sun exposure. There’s a lot of misinformation on the topic, as always, consult with your doctor before making any treatments changes and let them know any questions you have.

We would recommend that you wait until after giving birth to use LED light therapy for your skin concerns, its fine to use during breastfeeding.

Will my LED Light therapy treatments be effected now I'm pregnant?

First, pregnancy is not a permanent state, so stopping your LED light therapy sessions for a few months is fine and some of the effects of LED light therapy can last for some time after pausing treatments. For example, when using red light therapy you work on building and repairing your collagen - this process once started doesn't stop or reverse if you don't have sessions, the sessions you've had will work to improve your skin.

In conclusion, while LED light therapy is a promising treatment for a variety of conditions, more research is needed to determine the safety and efficacy of this therapy for pregnant women, who are looking for an alternative to traditional treatments.
